US Dollar (USD) at online casinos
Broadly accepted at offshore operators; US-based operators require state-level licensing (Ontario iGO for Canadian equivalent).
Overview
USD is the second most-common currency at offshore casinos. US-resident players cannot legally play at most offshore operators — real-money online casinos in the US are state-licensed (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Connecticut, Rhode Island). Offshore operators that accept US deposits do so in violation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
Practical notes
For US-resident players: use only state-licensed operators, and only if your state has legalized online casino play. For non-US players holding USD accounts: fine at most offshore operators; FX spread minimal since USD is the deep-liquidity currency of the industry.
