Licensing
The regulatory authorization under which a casino operates and is held accountable.
Also known as: gaming licensegambling license
The regulatory framework a casino operates under. Common gaming licenses, roughly ordered from strictest to loosest:
- UKGC (UK Gambling Commission) — strict, requires GAMSTOP, deposit limits, affordability checks
- MGA (Malta) — EU-recognised, robust dispute-resolution
- DGA (Denmark), Spelinspektionen (Sweden), BOS (Netherlands), AAMS/ADM (Italy) — national EU regulators
- iGO (Ontario, Canada) — provincially regulated
- KGC (Kahnawake, Canada) — First Nations gaming
- Isle of Man, Gibraltar — smaller jurisdictions with reasonable standards
- Curaçao (Antillephone / GCB successor) — offshore, historically weak dispute resolution
- Anjouan (Comoros) — newer offshore, replaces expired Curaçao licenses
The license determines player protections, dispute processes, and what the operator can advertise where. Always check the footer of the casino site for the license number and regulator — legitimate operators publish both.
