Provably fair

A cryptographic verification system used by crypto casinos to prove that game outcomes were not manipulated after your bet was placed.

Also known as: provably-faircryptographic fairness

A protocol used primarily by crypto casinos to prove — mathematically, verifiably — that every game outcome was determined before you saw your result, and not tampered with after you bet.

How it works (simplified):

  1. Before your session, the casino commits to a hash of a secret seed.
  2. You provide your own seed (client seed).
  3. Every result is computed as hash(server_seed + client_seed + nonce).
  4. After the session, the casino reveals the server seed. You can verify every outcome yourself.

This eliminates the “did they cheat me?” question for RNG-based games. It’s the technical alternative to certification labs like eCOGRA — instead of trusting an audit, you check the math yourself, per bet.

Provably fair is standard on crypto casinos, absent on traditional casinos. Games like Bustabit, dice, plinko, mines, crash all lend themselves to this model.

Note: provably fair proves the RNG wasn’t tampered with, but does NOT tell you the RTP is high. A provably-fair game can still have a 5% house edge — the fairness is about integrity, not generosity.
