Freeroll

A freeroll is a tournament that requires no entry fee (no buy-in) but pays real-money prizes to top finishers. Common at online poker rooms; rarer but occasional at slot casinos.

“Freeroll” is sometimes used loosely to mean “free money” — e.g. players call a no-deposit bonus a “freeroll.” Strictly, a freeroll is a tournament format; a no-deposit bonus is a different bonus type.
