GAMSTOP

GAMSTOP is a free, UK-wide self-exclusion register run by the National Online Self-Exclusion Scheme Limited. Registering with GAMSTOP blocks the player from every UKGC-licensed online gambling operator simultaneously.

How it works

1. Player registers at gamstop.co.uk with name, DOB, address, and email.
2. GAMSTOP disseminates the block to every UKGC operator within 24 hours.
3. Operators must refuse the player service — new accounts cannot be created; existing accounts are locked.
4. Exclusion runs for 6 months, 1 year, or 5 years (player’s choice at signup).

What GAMSTOP does NOT cover

• Offshore operators (Curaçao, Anjouan, etc.) — they are not subject to UKGC rules and can accept GAMSTOP-registered players.
• Land-based casinos — separate SENSE scheme covers physical operators.
• Sports betting shops — SENSE covers those.
• International sites — a UK GAMSTOP registration is not transferable to other jurisdictions.

Common misuse of GAMSTOP

• “Non-GAMSTOP casinos” marketing: offshore operators actively targeting GAMSTOP-registered players. Legal in the operator’s jurisdiction; may be problematic for the player from a harm-reduction perspective.
• Bypass attempts: players sometimes try to re-register with slightly different names to circumvent the block. UKGC operators run identity matching to prevent this. Offshore operators typically don’t.
