Source of Funds

A compliance check where the casino requests documentation proving that the money you're depositing has a legitimate origin.

Also known as: SoFSOF checkSource-of-funds verification

Source of Funds (SoF) is a compliance check that goes beyond identity/address verification. The operator asks you to prove that the money you deposited comes from a legitimate origin. Required under AML law across all regulated jurisdictions.

When SoF triggers:

  • Cumulative deposits exceed a threshold (usually €2,000 at UKGC operators, €10,000 at most others).
  • Deposit patterns look unusual — sudden large deposits, deposits from multiple payment methods.
  • Withdrawal exceeds a threshold (usually €10,000).
  • Random compliance audit.

Documents accepted:

  • Recent pay slips covering three months.
  • Bank statements showing salary or business income.
  • Tax return for self-employed players.
  • Proof of savings — historic bank statements showing funds accumulated over time.
  • Sale-of-asset documentation — a real estate sale, vehicle sale, or share disposal.
  • Trading account statement for crypto SoF (Kraken, Coinbase, Binance history).

Some operators also require a written statement explaining the source in your own words.

Timeline:

  • Standard SoF review adds 3-7 days to withdrawal processing.
  • Complex cases (self-employed income, mixed sources) can take 10-15 business days.

Best practice:

Submit SoF proactively before your first large deposit — many well-run operators support this. Never argue with an SoF request; provide clean documentation and let compliance close the case.
